Una Verdad Tan Abrasiva como el entendimiento mutuo

Erick Flores Diaz (Morelia, 2002) is a Mexican visual artist and poet based in Michoacán, Mexico. He has a BFA with an Art History Major granted by the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo.

Through a visual language inspired by a multicultural pastiche and universal works of literature, Erick creates works of art that explore the intersection of the visual arts and literature, prompting an introspective reflection on themes such as the quotidian, the contemporary collective, the cognitive and identity-forming processes in creativity, and the decline of memory. The use of experimental materials in mixed media, combined with poetic narratives drawn from world and contemporary literature, makes his work a dialogue about the rawness of the materials used, their symbiosis with the human condition, and the limits of language.

As an artist, his work has been exhibited in various galleries and museums in his home state, the most recent exhibition being his first solo show in Galería El Pórtico titled “Erick Flores Diaz: Un Coloso bajo cal” (2025). As an author, Erick has published a variety of essays, fiction, curatorial texts and poetry for regional, Michoacán-based mediums such as Boletín Filos and Semanario Cultural. He recently published a poem for the latest issue of Indiana-based poetry magazine Voicemail Poems. He is the recipient of the awards Selección del “1er Encuentro Nacional de Poetas de Álvaro Obregón 2024” and 2nd Place in the “Concurso de cuento y poesía joven UMSNH 2023”
